Florence Henderson's eclectic post-”Brady Bunch” career - CBS News

Florence Henderson made a name for herself playing Carol Brady, but that’s far from the whole story on her career. The Broadway veteran, singer, talk show host and “Dancing with the Stars” contestant stayed active right up until her death Thursday at the age of 82 -- and she was never shy about celebrating the role that made her a household name. But Henderson’s choices in roles -- especially her one-of cameo appearances -- revealed her sophisticated and irreverent sense of humor and approach to celebrity. She reprised her role as Carol Brady countless times, both in “Brady Bunch” spin-off TV movies and series as well in more satirical contexts, like “The Love Boat. Henderson also appeared as other characters on the ‘70s and ‘80s guest-star-happy cruise series numerous times during its run. Her final performance is due to premiere in 2017, starring alongside Pam Grier in the independent film “Grandmother’s Murder Club,” following a cameo in 2016’s parody film “Fifty Shades of Black. But Henderson’s most popular role post-”Brady Bunch” turned out to be herself. She hosted numerous daytime talk and cooking shows, co-anchored the short-lived “Today” show spin-off “Later Today” and competed on “Dancing with the Stars” in 2010. She also returned to the show numerous times during the most recent season to... Henderson even appeared at the reality series’ 2016 finale, just days before her death.

Banksy in Boston: F̶O̶L̶L̶O̶W̶ ̶Y̶O̶U̶R̶ ̶D̶R̶E̶A̶M̶S̶ CANCELLED, Essex St, Chinatown, Boston
Interestingly, both of the Boston area Banksy pieces are on Essex St: • F̶O̶L̶L̶O̶W̶ ̶Y̶O̶U̶R̶ ̶D̶R̶E̶A̶M̶S̶ CANCELLED (aka chimney sweep) in Chinatown, Boston • NO LOITRIN in Central Square, Cambridge. Does that mean anything? It looks like he favors Essex named streets & roads when he can. In 2008, he did another notable Essex work in London, for example, and posters on the Banksy Forums picked up & discussed on the Essex link as well. Is there an Essex Street in any of the other nearby towns? It looks like there are several: Brookline, Charlestown, Chelsea, Gloucester, Haverhill, Lawrence, Lynn, Medford, Melrose, Quincy, Revere, Salem, Saugus, Somerville, Swampscott, and Waltham. Most of these seem improbable to me, other than maybe Brookline, or maybe Somerville or Charlestown. But they start getting pretty suburban after that. But, again, why "Essex"? In a comment on this photo, Birbeck helps clarify: I can only surmise that he's having a 'dig' at Essex...
steve jobs rip Oh Wow! Oh Wow! Oh Wow!
A Sister’s Eulogy for Steve Jobs By MONA SIMPSON Published: October 30, 2011 SHAREI grew up as an only child, with a single mother. Because we were poor and because I knew my father had emigrated from Syria, I imagined he looked like Omar Sharif. I hoped he would be rich and kind and would come into our lives (and our not yet furnished apartment) and help us. Later, after I’d met my father, I tried to believe he’d changed his number and left no forwarding address because he was an idealistic revolutionary, plotting a new world for the Arab people. Related Opinion: The Genius of Jobs(October 30, 2011)Even as a feminist, my whole life I’d been waiting for a man to love, who could love me. For decades, I’d thought that man would be my father. When I was 25, I met that man and he was my brother. By then, I lived in New York, where I was trying to write my first novel. I had a job at a small magazine in an office the size of a closet, with three other aspiring writers. When one day a...
Virgin Media phone cabinet in Whitecross Street EC1
31 March 2013. Wording on top of the cabinet: "EC1 is special because ... EC1 New Deal for Communities." To find out more, I looked in the local newspaper, the Islington Gazette. This had the story but written like the gush of a Press Release. Instead I recommend a piece in the blog Spitalfields Life. It's called: The Curious Cabinets of EC1 & SE1. It gives a more personal view with insightful comments about the designs on the painted phone cabinets in London ECI and more in SE1. (Part of the London borough of Southwark.) The anonymous author took some excellent photos as well. Here's a flavour. "Whitecross Street is the focus for a set of cabinets in EC1, with many in the streets leading off from the market, that catch your eye as you weave your way through the stalls. You will find images of the children in the school, and in the playground, and of a market stall, and of the YMCA, and of the weathervane upon St Luke’s Church and of the bicycles that...
