Trent-Severn Waterway Houseboating Itinerary – One Way Trip: Burleigh Falls to Peterborough

Day 1 – Launch your boat at Lock 28 – Burleigh Falls. There were previously two locks located at Burleigh Falls, but after upgrades made in 1968 the two locks became one. Now lock 30 skips to lock 28, as there is no more lock 29. Burleigh Falls is home to The Burleigh Falls Inn, The Market at Burleigh Falls and Lovesick Lake Park. Directly beside Lock 28 you can find The Market at Burleigh Falls which sells local produce, flowers, and very unique crafts such as carved wood pieces. At Lovesick Lake Park there is a gift shop, restaurant, and cottages and camping sites available. The Woodview General Store is just a short 7 minute walk away from Lock 28 – Burleigh falls, and they have a variety of goods available, including Kawartha Dairy products. Day 1 – Stoney Lake holds very inspirational and historical qualities as artists, writers and musicians have drawn creativity and insight from the waters and surrounding islands. Susannah Moodie and Catharine Parr Trail have vividly depicted the 1,000 islands encompassing this breath-taking lake in many of their diaries about their experiences as settlers in this region. If you find yourself hooked on this fascinating history, then it’s aboat time you take a break at one of the enriching resorts found on Stoney Lake. Nearby amenities include Free WIFI, Washrooms, BBQ’s, Lantern Restaurant & Grill, Firefly Bakery & Supply, and Cottage Toys, if you’re looking for some fun toys for the water. Next to McCracken’s Landing you will find Carveth’s Marina and Proximity Fine Art. Stoney Lake local and professional art can be found at Proximity Fine Art where they feature different artists throughout the summer season. Located on the North shore of Stoney Lake is Viamede Resort, which has two fantastic restaurants, Mount Julian and The Boathouse. These two locations will position you half way to your next destination: Lock 27 – Young’s Point. As you traverse the little islands constructing Stoney Lake, you will spot two beautiful buildings harboured on two different islands. Many people find St. Peters on the Rock to be a very spiritual place where one can express their own beliefs in the island’s quaint church. Many Stoney Lake cottagers attend sermons on Sunday mornings or visit the island for a beautiful nature walk throughout the summer. The larger island across the way is called Juniper Island which harbours their own general store. Immerse yourself in many of their festivals such as the Juniper Island Art Festival. Extended visit – Stoney Lake offers such a wide variety of activities that you may wish to extend your time here. Pine Vista Resort is another stunning spot where guests can capture the beauty of Stoney Lake with their lovely gardens, majestic pine trees and lakeside accommodations. If you’re feeling adventurous and need to stretch your legs, you can dock your boat at Pilgrim’s Rest Campground, for $10 a day, and hike to the Petroglyphs Provincial Park. It is approximately an hour walk from Pilgrims Rest Campground to get to the Petroglyphs but the hike will definitely be worth your while, where you will be able to delve into the native rock carvings and natural, sacred surroundings including... Take one of these detours to unwind and relax along the shores of this beautiful region and continue on to Lock 27 – Young’s Point. Day 1 – Lock 27 is a popular, and therefore busy, overnight location for boaters, and is also a popular destination for fishing. Lockside Trading Company is right by Lock 27, and offers fabulous shopping for unique giftware, home décor, and casual clothing. If you’re looking for a bite to eat, The Old Bridge Inn & Restaurant has casual fine dining, or there is also the Old Mill Restaurant & Waterfront Patio at the Islandview Resort. Before leaving Lock 27 – Young’s Point, be sure to fill up your gas tank as there will be no filling stations between here and Lock 21 – Peterborough. As you wave goodbye to the friendly community at Young’s Point, accelerate into Katchewanooka Lake also known as the lake of many rapids in Ojibway. Home to Susannah Moodie, this lake leads into the Otonabee River which settlers often used to travel into Lake Ontario.

  2. But they didn't listen and for a short time tried to take over Tom Sawyer Island. When some tried to incite violence and confront police, they Female cast members working in the area took a liking to the character, naming their canoe team for years
